Since 1997, Vent des Forêts undertakes a human and cultural project based on bringing together the rural world and contemporary art. Vent des Forêts spreads out on a 5000 hectares farm and forest land in the Meuse area and leads cultural and educational actions throughout the Grand Est Region.
Each year, artists are invited in art residencies to develop a creative work in relation with the natural environment, supported by craftsmen, companies and volunteers willing to be involved in research and art production. In 27 years, more than 250 art pieces have been created, among which 150 are still visible along 45 kms of marked out and freely accessible hiking paths.
In 2020, Vent des Forêts purchased an iconic farm in Lahaymeix village, composed of four barns, gardens and a café. It’s the beginning of a new artistic adventure gravitating around Vent des Forêts House.
Vent des Forêts is financially supported by the French Government, the ministry of Culture (DRAC), the Grand Est Region, the Meuse Department, the local municipality community De l’Aire à l’Argonne and six municipalities: Dompcevrin, Fresnes-au-Mont, Lahaymeix, Nicey-sur-Aire, Pierrefitte-sur-Aire and Ville-devant-Belrain.
Vent des Forêts is labelled “Contemporary Art Center of National Interest” since 2019.
