Since its creation in 2009, La Graineterie – Centre d’art de la Ville de Houilles has been promoting and disseminating original projects — exhibitions, events, publications, residencies, and activities for all audiences — conceived within a unique building: a former grain store that was in operation until the mid-20th century.
Since 1997 the Biennale de la jeune création has played a key role in establishing contemporary art in Houilles and supporting emerging artists as they stage their first exhibitions in France. The Biennale de la jeune création has been running for almost thirty years, enabling visitors to discover practices rooted in the present, guided by the expertise of both a selection committee and a professional jury. The winning artist is awarded a solo exhibition at the art center the following year.
The programming at La Graineterie – Centre d’art de la Ville de Houilles brings together projects by French and international artists, inviting curators, scenographers, and graphic designers to showcase diverse and collective perspectives. The art center’s project is thus centered around a dynamic of exchange and collaboration, educational reflection and transmission, and experimental productions both inside and outside its walls.
